300Tdi P Gasket Replacement

.

Slacken PS pump pulley bolts while belt is still attached.

Remove auxilliary belt after taking tension off it.

Remove coolant hoses.

And alternator.

Remove these studs so aux bracket can be moved away from engine block.

The area of the coolant leak is clearly visible.

Remove the PS pulley and then the 4 bolts holding the PS pump fixing plate to the aux bracket. Move the PS pump forward out of the way. The aux bracket can now be removed from the engine bay.

The auxilliary bracket with the 2 pieces of temporary studding next to it. They need to be M8 and 5 inches long. Notice that I've left the water pump attached the the aux bracket, having only removed the longer bolts that pass through it into the engine block.

After cleaning up the gasket mating surface of the engine (also do rear of the aux bracket), the pieces of studding are screwed into opposite ends of the p gasket mounting holes. They hold the gasket in place and support the auxilliary bracket whilst the fixing bolts are replaced.

The p gasket slid into position. I put a small amount of blue hylomar on each side to help the gasket seal.

The auxililliary bracket is now slid onto the temporary studs. The other fixing bolts are replaced, temporary studs then removed (lock 2 nuts together), and the 2 remaining bolts replaced.
