Post Extras: Mean Green (Member) 10/09/04 03:51 PM Re: 2002 dash [re: musicman] I have fitted the dash, but not got it wired yet. So far not found supplier for the plugs, but working on it. The only way to wire them is to use the small female spade connectors - if you alternate between insulated and non-insulated to cut down the chance of shorts. It is possible but a tight fit! Are you fitting the rear wiper and wash switches? If so have worked out which spades are which? I managed to get some Black, White and Blue (they didn't have Green) connector shells and some terminals on a strip from this company - Heart Electronics I couldn't get (or identify) the 6-way connectors used for the Electric Window Switches, or the 10-way connector used for the Hazard Warning Switch. For the Electric Window Switches I've used individual terminals insulated with small sleeving. For the Hazard Warning Light Switch I managed to find a suitable connector from a crashed late-series Rover 200 in a scrappy (they use similar switches to the 2002 Defender and the Hazard Warning Switch is the same, but mounted vertically rather than horizontally), I've had to carefully un-crimp and re-use the terminals. The wiring and switch pin-outs are in the RAVE 2002 CD electrical libraries and wiring diagrams, as are the Land Rover part numbers for the connectors, although my main dealer cannot find them as orderable parts. Here are some screen grabs for the switches and their connectors from the RAVE 2002 CD - You can download the full size images in a .zip file here - All Defender 2002 Switches - The link to the .zip file doesn't work - Go here - Index and select All_Switches.zip for download You can download a .pdf of the Defender 2002 wiring diagram here - Defender 2002 wiring diagram All the 2002 switches, except the Hazard Warning Switch, are not suitable for switching loads directly - use them to switch relays. The "One Touch, Push-Push" Rear Fog Lamp Switch switches the earth on an ECU (YWC104430L) which costs about twelve quid new. I also managed to get a suitable 4-way connector for this from the same scrapped Rover 200 and re-use the terminals in the same way as the Hazard Warning Switch. I hope this info is helpful, Paul. 1989 Arles Blue 2.5TD 110 Hardtop 1988 Alaskan Blue 3.5 EFi Range Rover Edited by PaulMc (10/11/04 10:51 AM) Post Extras: PaulMc (Junior Member) 10/11/04 08:00 AM Re: 2002 dash [re: PaulMc] If you can't get the right colour 5-way connector for the switch that you have, you can always pare off the keyway moulding on the bottom of the connector - it will then fit any switch. You can also do this to the keyway moulding on the switches so that they fit into any of the dash apertures. And a few final questions, perhaps pretty lame ones at that, but what is a RAVE 2002 CD? Where do I get one? And what does the number under the connector in the pictures Paul posted at the beginning mean? I made a list of them and got the parts man at my local main dealer to do a parts enquiry on them, they all came back as 'unknown' - if only it was that easy. Unfortunately, attachments don't work on this forum, you have to insert a web link to the picture in your post. An easy and free way to host pictures on the web is to use Photobucket or if you like I could put it in my Photbucket album for you? It wasn't important. Alan wants $2 US ea connector including the 5 terminals. He only has a few green and white ones left. $5 US to ship anywhere in the US. I got 6 of each figuring I can shave the guides off some to use for the black and blue. He got them directly from Tyco. ............ While I was typing this reply I got an email from Alan. He bought a quanity either directly from Tyco or a distributor (he can't remember it was a few years ago) He took what he needed and sold the rest to John Lee at Expedition Exchange. and thought John might have the black and blue ones by now. I just sent John an email, also asking if he knows anything about the Hazard and window connectors .... more later. And Paul I also sent the numbers under the connector details to Rovers North to see if they could determine if they were Rover part #'s. They also have a deal with a manufacturer that makes harnesses and they're going to check with them as well. And thanks Robert, the P/N's are in the 5th post on the 1st page of this thread as well as on Colin's site 3 posts prior to yours. But that means 2 things. 1.)The parts are not restricted to the Auto mfg. and 2.)the 1st person I spoke with at Tyco that said he would look into the Hazard and window connectors may really do it. The downside is it looks like I would have to buy either 400 or 800 each. But if John Lee has greens and whites maybe I only have to buy blacks and blues. ........developing 1993 NAS 110 1995 NAS 90 1967 SIIa 88 Post Extras: NAS110 (stranger) 03/04/05 09:42 AM Re: Connectors [re: NAS110] Expedition Exchange has Green (347477-4) and White (347477-2) connectors (with terminals). The dash top, old rear trim and old bottom tray have been removed but when trying to test fit the new tray I can't fit it because the vent handles are in the way. Has anyone else run into this and if so what was the solution? At the minute it looks like I'll have to either remove the lower dashbord to give clearance, or remove the vent handle trims in the new new tray which appear to be glued in. Also, has anyone fitted the bulkhead brackets and cover - items 5 and 6 in the diagram on the following webpage http://www.reedx.net/landrover/mods/2002dash/part2_parts.htm Do the brackets support the stereo or are they only there to add strength to the original metal bracket which will have to have the rear section cut out to allow the stereo to fit? It is made by Sumitomo Electronics in Japan P/N 6090-1220. I've emailed sales but not heard back yet. I'll post here when I do. There's a drawing of it at http://www.whitebuilders.com/6090-1220.pdf Dennis White 1993 NAS 110 1995 NAS 90 1967 SIIa 88 Post Extras: TdiGuy (stranger) 04/23/05 04:58 PM Re: 2002 dash [re: NAS110] I started my install but with mine, i started from scratch. I also started with the 2002 style rear metal backing plate and the newer style vent openers. They work so much better and close great. I had to mod it a little with tin snips for the wiper motor and make 3 small L-brackets to attach it on top like the older style. I will take pics to show everyone asap. Do you have part nos for the rear backingplate (I assume the one that supports the dash top) and new vent handles? Did you cut your lower dash or was yours already of the new design? I have put photo of the new style lower dash so people can see what I'm talking about. http://www.reedx.net/landrover/mods/2002dash/part4/index.htm Colin 2002 Dash -- Colin Reed 1996 300Tdi 110SW Post Extras: TdiGuy (stranger) 04/24/05 05:51 PM Re: 2002 dash [re: reedx] I forgot to mention that my truck is LHD but here are the #'s UI will take pics too Backing Plate Assembly AHP710190 vent handles AIR710090 AIR710080 Bolts for new style handles HYG10013 4 REQ Knobs AIT710030 2 REQ And I used the new style lower dash Custom D-90 300Tdi, 3-Link, 35" MTR's Edited by TdiGuy (04/24/05 05:53 PM) Post Extras: reedx (stranger) 04/25/05 02:35 AM Re: 2002 dash [re: TdiGuy] Thanks, traced most of the parts you mention.
