Other Installations

Randy

I started my install but with mine, I started from scratch. I also started with the 2002 style rear metal backing plate and the newer style vent openers. They work so much better and close great. I had to mod it a little with tin snips for the wiper motor and make 3 small L-brackets to attach it on top like the older style. I will take pics to show everyone asap.

I forgot to mention that my truck is LHD but here are the part numbers

Backing Plate Assembly AHP710190
Vent handles AIR710090 AIR710080
Bolts for new style handles HYG10013 4 REQ
Knobs AIT710030 2 REQ

And I used the new style lower dash.

( NOTE: The RHD backing plate is AHP710180 )

Once the clocks were off, it only took about 20 minutes to remove the original backing plate assembly.  I then just ground off the brackets. The picture below shows 1 of the 3 brackets removed.
The cutout (large loop) you have to make on the new panel since it does not already have it. This hole is for the wind screen wiper tube, as you can see a few pictures further down the screen. The wiper motor is in the same location RHD and LHD.
Next, I attached the brackets to the bulkhead loosely then installed the new plate.  Then I was able to drill the holes in the L brackets that actually line right up with holes on the new plate.
The old brackets are mounted to the bulkhead and attached to the new panel with sheet metal screws.
New style vent openers.
The rest of the pics are just an overview so far.

As you can see I have the new style lower dash which already has the cutout for the centre console.
The cutout is 12" x 2"
