Bonnet Stay
Details of another modification provided by Mike Hingley.
Bonnet stay for bonnet with spare wheel mount.
When I was first introduced to Land Rovers they all had the same bonnet stay the scissor type. Most also had their spare wheels mounted on the bonnet.
Then came the 90/110 followed by the Defender and for a bonnet with a spare wheel mount a single tube stay that was clipped to the bonnet. For those that have this arrangement you’ll know how difficult that stay can be to get into place, get back out of the slam panel and how the clip holder falls off the bonnet.
With the advent of the Wolf came a new stay. This fits across the radiator like a eurobox!!
The fitting is simple.
You need the following kit of parts.
| Part Number | Cost (GBP) |
Description |
| ALR9022 | 14.30 | Stay - Hood |
| ASU710040 | 3.51 | Bracket - Hood Stay |
| ASU710050 | 3.57 | Bracket - Hood Stay |
| AHU710060 | 4.17 | Bracket - Hood Stay |
| PRC3180 | 3.06 | Clip |
| AYA10004L | 0.33 | Grommet |
| 4 * small bolts with washers pop rivets |
||
| Total Cost | 28.94 |
The fitting is straight forward. You’ll need to remove the bracket for the scissor type stay if that’s still fitted. I also needed to undo the power steering fluid reservoir.
For the stay bracket it will help if you remove the front panel. Then undo the four bolts that secure the radiator in place. Now undo the bolts that hold the scissor stay. One will stay in the bracket. Pull the radiator forward and that bolt should fall out. If it doesn’t use a flat bar as a chisel and hammer the bolt into the engine bay. One blow will do.
Now fit all the bits and you have a nice easy stay to use.
Mike
